NEW ConSTELLATIONS

Working with repetition and transformation, these works engage my interest in how conflicts can be transformed into new, more malleable, even lyrical forms. Each painting references two different characters in physical or metaphysical opposition from art history. The mark making emerges as I draw and re-draw two hands in opposition from these conflicts (Jacob Wrestling the Angel for example) over and over again until they are no longer distinguished as hands or indeed as separate entities. In doing so, each large drawing offers a new, more dynamic constellation of form and empty space and renewed possibility.
