LOOTED
Looted is a dynamic multimedia installation that uses video to showcase the process of repainting and subsequently erasing artworks stolen from museums and private collections in Poland during WWII. The work explores the pillaging of artwork in both wartime and colonization as well as the cyclical nature of destruction and renewal.
This is a project by Polish artist Dorota Mytych with contributions from Jessica Houston (Canada), Marcia Teusink (UK), and Tracy Grubbs (USA). We recently received a grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission to show the work in 2024. The video below highlights the project’s premiere in Krakow in 2023.
